Ventilation Hood Repair in Houston

Viking ventilation hoods pull heat, grease and smoke out of the kitchen over a range or rangetop. Owners call about a weak blower, a noisy motor, lights that fail, and filters that no longer seat properly.

01What goes wrong

Common ventilation hood problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

Blower runs but air barely moves

02

Motor hums loudly or rattles

03

Lights flicker or stay dark

04

Speed button works on one setting only

05

Baffle filters hang loose or rattle

06

Grease drips from the hood bottom

The hood line includes wall-mount, island and under-cabinet styles, with an internal or remote blower and a bank of lights and controls. A strong blower does little good if the duct is clogged or the damper is stuck, so we look at the whole path.

Cooking in Houston adds heat and humidity to every meal, and hoods work hard. Over time grease collects on the blower wheel and in the ducts, throws it off balance and makes the motor noisy, and moisture can corrode switches and sockets.

We check the blower speed, the wheel, the damper and the lights first. If the cause is the duct run itself, we describe what we see and the work needed, rather than guess.

05Ventilation Hood questions
How often should hood filters be cleaned?

Every month or two for heavy cooking. Stainless baffle filters can often go in the dishwasher if your manual allows it. A clogged filter cuts airflow and puts more load on the motor.

Why does my hood seem to pull less air than it did?

Grease in the filters or duct, a blower wheel coated with residue, or a closed damper are common reasons. In some homes the hood also needs make-up air. We check the blower and damper and tell you what we find.

Can you repair a hood that is built into a custom enclosure?

Often yes. Blowers, lights and controls come out through the front or the bottom without disturbing the enclosure. We protect the range below and tell you if the work needs your contractor.
