Viking VGIC486 Convection Range Repair
The VGIC486 is a retired 48-inch open burner range, large enough that it usually anchors a cooking wall with a hood above and space on both sides. With convection baking and broiling and the VariSimmer low setting, owners liked it for serious cooking, and the same features give us a list of regular checks.
Open burners need free ports and seated caps; when grease collects, the flame lifts or turns yellow. The convection fan is the other wear point on a range this size, where a bearing starts as a hum and ends as a seized blade. The oven sensor and bake igniter round out the usual calls.
We test the burners one at a time, spin the fan and compare the oven against a thermometer. We price the repair in writing first, and all workmanship carries a 30-day warranty. If the kitchen ever smells of gas, walk out and call the gas utility from the driveway or the street.
A worn motor bearing or a stiff blade mount is likely. We check by hand whether the blade turns freely, then test the motor. A hum with slow rotation usually means the motor is failing and should be replaced soon.
It depends on a clean burner port and a valve that meters gas smoothly at the lowest flame. If the flame drops out at low, we clean the port first and then check the valve and the cap seating.
Often only partially. Many repairs, like igniters and burner work, are done from the top or front. For gas connection or rear panel checks we slide the range out carefully with floor protection.
