The DDSB423D is the dispenser version of the Designer 42-inch side-by-side, retired and still in service. A through-the-door dispenser brings water and ice to the front of the freezer door, which means the unit needs a water line and filter behind it. Water line connections at the back are a quiet source of leaks, so we check those too.

The water system is what ages differently from a plain refrigerator. A filter overdue for change slows the flow, the inlet valve weakens, and the ice maker slows or stops. A dispenser flap that sticks open lets warm air in.

The dispenser on my DDSB423D has stopped working. Where do you start?

With the water supply, the filter and the inlet valve. If water reaches the valve but not the dispenser, we test the actuator and the line.

Why is ice production slow?

A weak inlet valve, a clogged filter or a failing mold heater are the usual reasons. We measure the flow and test each part. We also check that the tubing is not pinched behind the cabinet.

How often should the dispenser area be cleaned?

Wipe the tray weekly. A dry tray prevents ice and mineral buildup that can stick the flap. It takes seconds and prevents most of the dispenser flap trouble we see.
