What Flashing temperature display + alarm (High Temperature Alarm) means

On first-generation Viking 7 Series and Virtuoso fully integrated columns, such as the VRI7240W, VFI7240W and VBI7360W, a flashing temperature display with an alarm is the High Temperature Alarm. It sounds when the compartment temperature rises above the allowed maximum. Pressing the alarm button mutes the sound, but the display keeps flashing until the temperature drops back to the normal maximum.

Common causes of Flashing temperature display + alarm (High Temperature Alarm)

  • A door left open or not fully closed
  • A large amount of warm food added at once
  • A dirty condenser or blocked grille reducing cooling
  • A cooling system problem that keeps the temperature high
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press the alarm button to mute the sound. 2. Push the door shut until it seals, and look for anything in its path. 3. Wait a few hours and see whether the flashing stops. 4. Vacuum dust from the grille and condenser with the power off. 5. If the display keeps flashing, move perishables and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A short alarm after loading warm food is normal
  • If the alarm lasts, food is at risk and cooling needs testing
  • The sealed system is not an owner repair
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Flashing temperature display + alarm (High Temperature Alarm)Flashing temperature display + alarm (High Temperature Alarm) questions
Will the flashing stop by itself?

Yes, once the temperature falls back to the normal maximum. Muting the alarm only silences the sound, so the display keeps flashing until cooling catches up.

How long should I wait?

After a door left open or a big load, a few hours is reasonable. If the display is still flashing the next day, the unit is not cooling properly and needs service.

Is my food safe?

Check the temperature shown and how long it stayed high. Perishable food held warm for hours should be discarded. We can inspect the cooling system the same day we can reach you.
