On Viking Professional and Designer undercounter refrigerators with TruProtect control, such as the VUAR1531T, VURD1441D and DUAR1531, E4 reports that the display thermistor, called sensor A, is out of range. That sensor tells the control the cabinet temperature shown to you, so the control may cool by a wrong reading. On dual-zone wine cellars, E4 refers to the lower compartment instead.
1. Check whether the cabinet feels as cold as the setting. 2. Unplug the unit for a minute and restore power. 3. Reset the code with SET held down and four presses of ON. 4. Keep doors closed. 5. If E4 returns, call us.
It is the display thermistor that senses the cabinet temperature. If it reads out of range, the control cannot cool accurately and shows E4 instead of a temperature.
Check the temperature with a thermometer. If it is above 40F, move perishables to another refrigerator or a cooler until we repair it, and keep the door closed as much as you can.
E3 is the evaporator sensor B, E4 is the display sensor A. We test both during a visit, quote the price in writing first and back the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
