What No Probe means

On Viking Professional VDSC5xxT dual-fuel ranges with EOC4 control, such as the VDSC536T-6B or VDSC548T-4GQ, No Probe means the meat probe input is open, so the control sees no probe connected. It appears when you pick a probe-based cook setting without a probe plugged into the oven jack. Often nothing is broken, but a damaged probe or worn jack can also leave the input open.

Common causes of No Probe

  • Meat probe not plugged in all the way
  • Probe cable broken inside the insulation
  • Probe jack in the oven worn or dirty
  • Wiring from the jack to the EOC4 control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Let the oven cool before touching the jack. 2. Push the probe plug in firmly, all the way. 3. Look at the cable for kinks, burns or flattened spots. 4. Try again with the probe tip inserted in the food. 5. If No Probe stays on with a good probe, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A probe cable can look fine and still be broken inside
  • Jack wiring is behind the oven liner
  • If the same message appears without any probe selected, the input is the issue and needs meter checks
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

No ProbeNo Probe questions
I am not using the probe. Why does it show No Probe?

Check that the cook mode is not set to a probe temperature. If you selected a normal bake and still see it, the probe input may be reading open and we should look at it.

Can I still bake without the probe?

Yes in most cases. Cancel the probe setting and use a regular timed bake. The message only concerns the probe input, not the heating elements.

Could the probe be the only problem?

Often it is. A new probe is cheaper than a control. We test the probe first, quote the price in writing and stand behind the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
