On Viking Professional VDSC5xxT dual-fuel ranges with EOC4 and VDSC display, models like the VDSC548T-4GQ or VDSC530T-4B, the Cooling message points to the oven cooling fan. The fan has a Hall-effect speed input, and the EOC4 control is not receiving a square wave in range. In plain words, the fan is not running or its speed signal is not reaching the control. The oven may shut down heating to avoid overheating.
1. Switch the oven off and wait until it is cool. 2. With the oven cold, listen for the fan when you start a bake. 3. Make sure nothing blocks the vents around the control area. 4. Reset power at the breaker for a minute. 5. If Cooling shows again, stop using the oven and call us.
The cooling fan keeps the control area and surrounding cabinet from overheating. If the control cannot see the fan turning, it stops heating as a precaution, which is why Cooling can cancel a bake.
We advise against it. Without airflow the range runs hotter than designed. Leave it off until we confirm whether the fan, its wiring or the control is the cause.
