Viking VGSC306 Self-Cleaning Range
The VGSC306 is a retired 30-inch open burner gas range that Viking described as the first commercial-type self-cleaning gas range. It shares the premium features of the VGIC series and adds a cleaning cycle, which sets it apart from the ordinary open burner ranges.
The cycle puts heavy stress on the door lock, the wiring and the oven sensor, so those are the first things we look at when the oven will not clean or the door will not unlock. On the cooktop, open burner wear shows up in the ports and electrodes.
We test the door lock, the burners and the oven heat in that order. A gas smell near this oven calls for fresh air and a call to the gas utility. The price is written before any work, and our workmanship carries a 30-day warranty.
A door lock that never confirms it is closed, or a sensor reading too hot, ends the cycle early. We test the lock and the sensor to find which one is reporting incorrectly.
Wait until the oven has cooled and the lock has released by itself. Forcing the door can bend the latch and make the next cycle fail.
A door lock and motor, extra insulation and a sensor that watches cleaning temperature. They keep the oven tidy, but they are also where age shows up first.
