Viking VGIC306 Open Burner Repair
The VGIC306 is a retired 30-inch open burner gas range, the standard width for a single-range kitchen. Owners usually kept it because the burners respond quickly and the oven is roomy, and it is the burner heads and igniters that determine how it feels after a decade.
Open burners rely on clean ports and a seated cap. When a pan boils over, liquid reaches the port and the flame turns ragged, or the spark clicks while the burner stays dark. In the oven, a slow preheat points to a weak bake igniter or a safety valve that no longer opens fully.
We check ports, caps and the spark on all burners first, then run the oven against a thermometer. You will get the price in writing before we replace anything, and we back the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A burner that lights and drops out often has a dirty port or a cap that is not seated. We clean and reseat it first, then check the flame sensing and valve if the problem remains.
A bake igniter that glows weakly delays the gas valve, so heat arrives late. We measure the igniter's draw, test the safety valve and check the temperature sensor before recommending any parts.
A slow igniter is not itself dangerous, but gas should not be left building up. If you ever smell gas, leave and call the gas utility from outside. Otherwise, schedule service rather than relighting repeatedly.
