The VDSC485 is a retired 48-inch open burner dual fuel range: a wide gas cooktop with open burners over two electric ovens. It is the largest of the open burner VDSC ranges here, and a visible part of a kitchen built around cooking.
A range this wide has two ovens that may not age evenly, so we test each with a thermometer and check each one’s sensor, elements and latch. On top, we clean the ports and test every burner’s igniter. We also confirm the range is level and secured, since a tilt shows in the oven and a heavy range is a tipping hazard if it is not anchored. If you smell gas near the range, walk out of the home and call the gas utility from outside. The price is on paper before any repair begins, with a 30-day workmanship warranty to follow.
Each cavity has its own sensor and elements, and one may have drifted or weakened. We measure both and test the one that is off. We check the oven sensor.
Yes. A heavy range can tip forward if a door is loaded. We check the bracket whenever we pull the range out. Please keep it engaged.
Often, because spills fall directly onto the burner. A regular wipe and a soft brush on the ports keeps the flame even. A quick wipe stops that buildup.
