Viking Professional VDSC5xxT dual-fuel ranges with EOC4 control and VDSC display, for example the VDSC530T-4B or VDSC536T-6B, show RTD Prob when the RTD oven temperature sensor reads open or shorted. The control cannot tell the real oven temperature, so it stops heating to protect the food and the range. You will see the message on the display and the oven may not preheat.
1. Switch everything off and wait for the oven to cool completely. 2. Look inside for a sensor probe that has been bent against the oven wall, but do not pull on it. 3. Switch the range breaker off for a minute and back on. 4. Try a short preheat. 5. If RTD Prob returns, call us rather than running the oven.
It stands for resistance temperature detector, the probe that tells the control how hot the oven cavity is. When its reading is open or shorted, the control shows RTD Prob and stops heating.
Not reliably. Without a valid probe reading the control cannot hold temperature, so it blocks heating. Use another oven or cooktop until the sensor is checked.
Once the diagnosis confirms the probe, replacement is usually a one-visit job if the part is on the truck. We quote the price first and the work carries our 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
