What DSI 3 Flashes means

On Viking Professional VGIC, VGSC, VGCC and VDSC ranges, the 3 Series RVGR3305B and Designer DCCG130, three flashes every four seconds from the DSI module mean ignition lockout. The control tried to ignite the burner, but it sensed no flame within the allowed time and number of tries, so it stopped. You may hear repeated clicking and then silence, with no flame at the burner.

Common causes of DSI 3 Flashes

  • Wet, dirty or misplaced burner cap
  • Igniter electrode dirty or cracked
  • Flame sensing problem at the burner
  • Weak spark or poor ground at the module
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all knobs to off and let things cool. 2. Check that burner caps are seated and dry, and the ports are free of food. 3. Cycle power at the breaker for a minute. 4. Try the burner once. 5. If it locks out again, call us. Do not keep retrying. If gas is present in the air, do not stay inside; call the gas utility from the street.

! Why to stop there
  • Repeated attempts do not repair a burner that cannot sense a flame
  • The igniter and sensor need testing with the correct tools
  • Gas appliance work belongs with a trained technician
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

DSI 3 FlashesDSI 3 Flashes questions
Why does the burner click and then quit?

The module tried the allowed number of times and sensed no flame, so it locked out for safety. Wet or dirty parts are common, but a weak spark can also be the cause.

Can I reset the lockout?

Cycling power at the breaker for about a minute usually clears the lockout, then the module tries again. If it returns, the burner needs a technician.

Does the repair come with a warranty?

Yes. You get a written price first, then we do the work, and the repair is covered by our 30-day workmanship warranty. If the burner igniter is the only cause, the bill is usually smaller than for a module.
