The VISB423D is a retired 42-inch Professional Series side-by-side with a dispenser. Compared with the VISB423, it adds a water line, a filter and an ice delivery system, and each of these may fail separately. Before anything is replaced, it helps to know whether the problem is ice, water or cold air.
We service a VISB423D by running ice and water at the dispenser, then checking the filter for seating, the inlet valve for flow and the supply connection for leaks. Inside the freezer, we test the ice maker, the evaporator and the defrost parts. Pricing is written down before parts are ordered, and the repair includes a 30-day workmanship warranty. We test the dispenser light and the lever switch as well, so the whole door assembly works before we leave.
We start at the tray and the line in the door, then the filter housing and the inlet valve. A leak can start well behind the dispenser and show up at the front.
A frozen bin, a jammed auger or a stuck chute flap could stop it. We clear the ice, check the auger motor and test the flap.
A cartridge that will not turn into place usually has a misaligned tab or a damaged housing. We examine the housing and replace it if cracked.
