Viking DDSB542 42-Inch Designer Refrigerator
The DDSB542 is a retired Designer Series side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, 42 inches wide. It stands alongside the DDSB423 in the range, and the numbers differ in a way that matters when we order gaskets and sensors. Sensors and fans are the parts we test first when the temperature complaints begin.
A side-by-side has two tall doors and two long gaskets, which means two long places for air to slip through. The freezer builds frost where it does, the refrigerator side warms when the damper or fan starves it, and the compressor makes up the difference by running longer.
We take readings on both sides and clean the airflow path. The price is given in writing first, and our work has a 30-day warranty.
It comes from the freezer through a damper and duct. If frost blocks the duct or the damper sticks, the fresh food side warms. We clear the path and test the damper.
Not always. The freezer door opens less but sees colder temperatures, which stiffens its gasket. We test each separately. A dollar bill test on each door tells you which one is weaker.
It runs longer when the room is warm or the condenser is dirty. We clean the coil and check the seals if it never rests.
