Viking VGSO166 Gas Oven Service
The VGSO166 is a retired 36-inch built-in gas oven with infrared broiling and convection baking in a large convection cavity. At 36 inches it is a serious piece of kitchen equipment, and its gas train has two burners to look after: bake and broil.
An infrared broiler that will not light is a question of igniter, safety valve and the burner’s ports, which collect grease from above. The bake burner needs even flame across its length, so we clean the ports and watch the flame at several temperatures. A convection fan that scrapes has a loose blade or a worn bearing. A door that does not close tight lets the heat escape and strains the hinges.
If you smell gas, leave and call the utility from outside. We confirm retired parts first, quote in writing and warrant the repair for 30 days.
The igniter may have weakened, the safety valve may not open or the ports may be clogged with grease. We test each and clean the burner. Cleaning the ports often restores the flame without any new parts.
We remove the floor panel, clean the ports and watch the flame across the length at low and high settings. Gaps or yellow areas are cleaned or adjusted.
Heat escapes, the control sees lower temperatures and burns more gas. We adjust or replace the hinges and gasket. Poor sealing also wastes gas. A tight door matters on gas ovens.
