Viking touch-control electric wall ovens such as the Professional VESO530T and VEDO530T and the Designer DSOE305T show RTD ERROR when the oven temperature sensor, called the RTD, reads open or shorted. The control uses this probe inside the cavity to hold temperature, so without a valid reading it cannot regulate heat safely. The official instruction is to call service. The oven normally stops heating when this appears.
1. Press OFF and let the oven cool. 2. Switch the oven breaker off for one minute and back on. 3. Look into the cavity without touching the sensor and make sure nothing is pushed against it. 4. Do not bend or move the sensor. 5. If RTD ERROR returns, stop using the oven and call us.
It is the oven temperature sensor, a probe in the cavity whose resistance changes with heat. The control reads it to hold the set temperature.
We recommend not using it. If the oven cannot read its own temperature, it cannot regulate it either, so please stop baking until a technician has checked the sensor.
Usually by replacing the sensor after testing it and its wiring. You get a written price first, and the finished work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty from the day of repair.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
