Viking RVEC3305B 30-Inch Electric Cooktop
The RVEC3305B is a current 30-inch electric cooktop from the 3 Series. Its QuickCook surface elements sit under glass ceramic, and the controls are metal die-cast knobs, which gives it a tactile feel that touch cooktops lack.
Knobs turn infinite switches, and those switches are among the most common parts to fail on a cooktop like this. A burner that goes cold or will not shut off usually points to the switch or the element. We start by measuring the supply at the terminal block, then test the element, then the switch. Because the glass has high infrared transmission, elements heat the pan quickly, and that heat cycles the elements hard over time.
Because it is a current model, parts are usually easy to source.
The switch behind the knob may be worn, or the element may have failed. We test voltage at the switch and resistance in the element to see which is responsible.
Generally they pull straight off when the cooktop is cool and off. Wash them gently, dry them fully, and push them back until they seat on the stem.
It is the name for the surface elements. When one fails, we match the replacement to the same position and rating so the burner heats as intended.
