Viking DSCD1301 Designer Dual Fuel
The DSCD1301 is a retired Designer Series 30-inch freestanding dual fuel range: a sealed burner gas cooktop above an electric oven. It was marketed as a fresh approach from the Viking engineering and design teams, and owners keep it for the combination of gas flames and even oven heat.
As with any dual fuel range, we test two systems. For the cooktop, we lift each sealed burner, clean the base and test the spark. For the oven, we compare real temperature with the setting, test the elements and the sensor, and check the door lock. If the control panel has gone dim or unresponsive, we trace its wiring before replacing it. Gas odor in the kitchen means leaving the house and making the call to the gas utility from outside. We write the price down first, and the work is covered for 30 days.
The burners use gas, but the oven, its fan, its lights and the control use electricity. Both need to be present for the range to work fully.
The sensor might read wrong, or a bake element might be weak. We check both with a meter and an oven thermometer. We use an oven thermometer for the comparison, since the dial alone can mislead.
Not necessarily. A loose connector or a failing control can cause it, and we test those before suggesting a larger repair. Loose wiring is far more common than a failed board, and it is much cheaper to correct.
