What SENSOR ERROR means

On the Viking Combi Steam/Convect ovens VCSO210 and CVCSO210 (2014 to 2016), such as the VCSO210SS, SENSOR ERROR appears in microwave sensor mode when the sensor does not detect vapor properly. The oven cannot judge when the food is done, so it stops. The official step is to press STOP/CLEAR and finish the food by time. It is mostly a cooking message about the food and container, not a failed part.

Common causes of SENSOR ERROR

  • Food that gave off too little vapor
  • A covered or sealed container that traps steam
  • A wet or dirty cavity or door seal
  • A sensor that no longer reads, if it happens on every sensor program
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press STOP/CLEAR. 2. Wipe the cavity and the door seal dry. 3. Use a loosely covered container so vapor can escape. 4. Finish the food using time and power level. 5. If SENSOR ERROR returns on every sensor program, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The container and food are the usual cause
  • Timed cooking works in the meantime
  • A repeat on all foods points to the sensor
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

SENSOR ERRORSENSOR ERROR questions
Does SENSOR ERROR mean the oven is broken?

Usually not. The sensor looks for vapor, and some foods or covers give it nothing to read. Cook by time and try again with a looser cover.

What foods work with sensor mode?

Moist foods that steam freely, in a container that vents. Dry foods or tightly sealed dishes give the sensor too little vapor to measure, so those end in the message.

When should I book a repair?

If every moist, vented dish ends in SENSOR ERROR, the sensor path needs testing. We quote in writing before work and cover repairs with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
