Shr appears on the display of Viking built-in all-freezers such as the VCFB5303 and FDFB5303, the bottom-freezer VCBB5363E, and the current 5 Series when the temperature sensor reads as shorted. It is the other half of the sensor alarm; the display shows either oPn or Shr. Pressing ALARM OFF silences the alarm, and the temperature should return once the sensor reads normally.
1. Press ALARM OFF to silence the alarm. 2. Confirm both doors are closed and the freezer interior is still firmly cold. 3. Turn the breaker off for a few minutes and restore it. 4. If Shr is still showing, avoid opening the door more than necessary and call us before the contents warm up.
It stands for a shorted sensor. The control sees the temperature sensor as shorted and cannot read a temperature, so the display shows Shr in its place and the alarm sounds.
It is risky. The control cannot regulate by a sensor it cannot read, so the temperature can drift. Use a thermometer and call us soon.
Only if it was a one-time glitch. If Shr returns after the breaker reset, the sensor or its wiring has a real problem, and a technician needs to measure it.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
