On Viking built-in all-freezers such as the VCFB5303 and FDFB5303, the bottom-freezer VCBB5363E, and the current 5 Series, the display can show oPn in place of the temperature. This is a temperature sensor alarm: the control reads the sensor as open. The display shows either oPn or Shr, ALARM OFF silences the sound, and if the temperature display does not return, an authorized technician should be called.
1. Press ALARM OFF to silence the sound. 2. Check that the doors are shut and the freezer is still cold to the touch. 3. Switch the freezer off at its breaker for a few minutes, then restore power to see whether the temperature display returns. 4. If oPn stays, keep the doors closed as much as possible and call us.
It stands for an open sensor circuit. The control cannot read the temperature sensor, so it shows oPn in place of the number and sounds the alarm.
Often it is, but the control cannot confirm the temperature. Check food for firmness and use a thermometer if you have one, and have the sensor looked at.
Both are sensor alarms. oPn means the sensor circuit is open, and Shr means it is shorted. The repair point is the same sensor and its wiring.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
