On Viking Professional VDB450 built-in dishwashers, flash pattern 4-2 is a Wash Heater Error. It is listed for the 450 and appears in the service cycle only: the Pots/Pans light blinks four times and the Normal Wash light blinks twice. The control found a problem with the heater that warms the wash water. In a regular wash, dishes may come out cool and poorly cleaned.
1. Turn off the dishwasher's breaker for two minutes, then on. 2. Run a short cycle and feel the inside of the door afterward for warmth. 3. Check that your home water heater is on, since cold supply water makes heating slower. 4. If the 4-2 pattern appears or the dishes are cold, call us.
Some checks run only during the diagnostic routine, which a technician starts. If you see it during a normal wash, tell us when you call so we know what to test.
No. The Wash Heater warms the water used for washing the dishes. The Dry Heater, pattern 5-3, is a separate part that handles the drying phase.
With cold water, cleaning is weaker, especially on greasy pans and baked-on food. We would have the heater checked soon rather than rewashing loads by hand.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
