Flash pattern 3-5 on Viking Professional VDB450 and Designer DDB325 built-in dishwashers is Motor Under Voltage, shown as three blinks of the Pots/Pans light and five of the Normal Wash light. The motor circuit is seeing less voltage than it needs to run. The control stops the cycle instead of driving a motor on weak power, which leaves the load only partly washed.
1. See whether other appliances or lights on the same circuit act weak or flicker. 2. Switch the dishwasher's breaker off for two minutes and on again, and make sure it is fully seated. 3. Run a short cycle. 4. If 3-5 comes back, stop using the dishwasher. Power supply checks need a meter, so we do them on site.
It can be, which is why we measure the supply during the visit. If lights dim when the dishwasher starts, mention that when you call.
It restarts the control and re-seats the breaker contacts, which fixes a marginal connection once in a while. A returning 3-5 needs a real measurement.
A motor on low voltage can overheat, which is why the control stops the cycle. We recommend waiting for the check, and we can measure the supply and the dishwasher's draw during the same visit.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
