Viking VGIC245G Griddle Range Repair
The VGIC245G is a 24-inch Classic Series companion range built around a griddle, so the cooking surface behaves differently from a plain open-burner top. These retired units usually sit in a small kitchen or next to a larger range, and the griddle takes the bulk of the daily abuse.
A griddle that heats unevenly most often points to a flame that has narrowed because grease dripped into the burner tube or ports. The ignition parts and the oven bake burner are the other items we look at, and age matters more than hours of use.
On a visit we clean the griddle burner, watch the flame along its full length, and then run the oven against a thermometer. You get the price in writing before we replace anything, and we stand behind the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Usually the burner under the cool side is burning with a short flame because grease or debris blocks its ports. We clean and align the burner, then check the flame. A warped plate is rarer, but we look for it too.
After heavy use, let the plate cool, remove spilled grease, and keep drippings from running toward the burner. A deeper cleaning of the burner ports once or twice a year keeps the flame even and prevents slow lighting.
The body and oven are the same 24-inch Classic Series design, but the top differs, with a griddle in place of open burners. Service parts for the ignition and the oven are similar, while the griddle burner is checked separately.
