The VGIC530 is an early 5 Series 30-inch freestanding open-burner gas range with a Direct Spark Ignition board, a ProFlow convection oven and continuous cast-iron grates. It came before the current SureSpark models and uses a different ignition arrangement, so the parts do not always interchange.
Our first test on a burner that clicks and will not catch is the simplest one: clean the port and the igniter tip, then watch the spark. If the spark is weak or absent on several burners, the board or its wiring becomes the suspect. In the oven we test the lock after self-clean, check the sensor and listen for the convection fan.
Should a gas smell ever appear, do not switch anything on; go outside and call the gas utility. We put the cost in writing first; a 30-day workmanship warranty covers what we do.
One shared cause such as the ignition board or its power supply is likely. We test the board output and wiring before replacing any individual igniter.
Replacement is the usual route. We confirm the part from the model label first, because early and later versions of the range use different boards. Replacement is usually quick once the correct board is confirmed.
No. After the oven cools we test the lock motor and latch and free them. A worn latch is the usual reason, and replacing it is straightforward.
