Flash pattern 4-1 on Viking Professional VDB450 and Designer DDB325 built-in dishwashers is a Temperature Sensor Error: the Pots/Pans light blinks four times and the Normal Wash light blinks once. The control cannot get a believable reading from the sensor that measures wash-water temperature. Since it cannot confirm the heat, the cycle stops, and dishes may come out cool or unwashed.
1. Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker for two minutes, then back on. 2. Run the shortest cycle and check the 4-1 lights. 3. Feel the inside of the door afterward; it should be warm if heating worked. 4. If 4-1 returns, stop using the machine. The sensor is in the wash circuit, so we test it with a meter.
It tells the control when the water is warm enough and when to stop heating. Without it the control cannot safely run a heated cycle.
The control stops on 4-1 regardless of the setting you choose. Reset it once at the breaker, then call us if the lights come back and the cycle stops again.
It could be related, but the pattern points to the sensor and not the heater. We test the sensor first and then the heater only if the sensor checks out.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
