What Heavy Flashing means

On Viking Designer undercounter dishwashers DFUD042, DFUD142 and DFUD142P, heavy flashing of the indicator means there is too much water in the dishwasher. These European-built models use an icon display instead of numbers, so the flashing pattern is the message. The machine stops and will not continue until you turn the main switch off and back on. Check the floor around the machine before you restart it.

Common causes of Heavy Flashing

  • Inlet valve letting in too much water
  • Water not draining from the tub
  • Leak or overfill triggering the protection
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off the water supply under the sink. 2. Switch the dishwasher off with the main switch and unplug it or turn off the breaker. 3. Mop up any water on the floor. 4. Turn the main switch off and on again to try clearing the display. 5. If heavy flashing returns, leave the water off and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Overfilling can mean a valve or drain problem, and either one can cause a leak
  • The right repair depends on which side is responsible
  • Written price first, and a 30-day warranty on our work
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Heavy FlashingHeavy Flashing questions
How do I clear heavy flashing?

Turn the main switch off and on again. That clears the display once the extra water is handled, but the cause still needs to be found if it recurs.

Is it a leak?

Possibly. Check the floor and the base of the cabinet. If there is water outside the machine, shut off the supply and call us right away.

Is the dishwasher safe to use again?

If heavy flashing does not return after a reset, it may be fine for now. Repeated flashing means the cause is still there and the machine should stay off.
