On current Viking fully integrated columns with a touch display, such as the FDFZIC7240 and FDBMIC7360, the message Lower unit open means the freezer door has been open for a few minutes. It is a reminder to close the door, not a breakdown. Once the door closes, the message goes away and the freezer recovers. Nothing needs repair if it clears.
1. Close the freezer door firmly. 2. Check baskets and shelves for items sticking out. 3. Wipe the door seal with warm water. 4. Watch the display to see if the message clears. 5. If it stays with the door shut, call us.
After the door has been open for a few minutes. Closing it fully clears the message. It does not mean anything is broken, and it clears itself as soon as the door is seated.
A basket or frost buildup may keep the door from sealing, or the door switch may not read correctly. Check the seal first, then call us.
We give a written price first, and our repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty. Door switches and hinges are the usual suspects, and we can adjust or replace them in one visit.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
