What EE05 means

On the Viking Combi Steam/Convect ovens VCSO210 and CVCSO210 (2014 to 2016), such as the VCSO210SS, EE05 is a high temperature engine error. The engine is the steam generator, and its temperature has risen abnormally high. The control stops the oven to protect it. Treat it as an overheating event until a technician has tested the engine, its sensor and the heater control.

Common causes of EE05

  • A steam generator that overheated, for example from low water
  • An engine heater that stays on when it should switch off
  • A temperature sensor that reads wrong
  • A control that fails to switch the heater off
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the oven off and keep the door closed while it cools. 2. Let it rest for an hour. 3. Check that the water reservoir has water and is seated. 4. Unplug the oven for a minute and plug it back in. 5. If EE05 returns, stop using the oven and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Overheating in a steam generator can damage seals and parts nearby
  • The cause needs measurement of the engine and its sensor
  • Running it again to see what happens risks more heat
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

EE05EE05 questions
Is EE05 dangerous?

The oven stopped itself to protect the engine, which is the right response. We still advise leaving it off until a technician has found why the engine overheated.

Could low water cause it?

It can. Check that the reservoir has water and is seated, then try again after the oven cools. If EE05 returns with water present, the engine or its controls need testing.

What will you do?

We test the engine, its sensor and the heater control, then quote the price in writing before any work. Repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty from the day we finish.
