What 6 flashes (with brief interval) means

On Viking induction and radiant cooktops that use an LED flash code, such as the VICU105-4B and VICU165-6B, six flashes with a brief interval mean the coil temperature sensor is malfunctioning. The VIRT301 and VCRT301 rangetops share this table. The control uses that sensor to keep the induction coil from overheating, so it may shut down the affected zone. The cooktop may still heat other zones.

Common causes of 6 flashes (with brief interval)

  • Coil temperature sensor malfunctioning
  • Sensor wiring or connector loose
  • Coil assembly damaged by heat
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and let the glass cool. 2. Clear everything from the cooktop and wipe it dry. 3. Cut power at the breaker for a minute, then restore it. 4. Heat a pan on one zone briefly. 5. If six flashes return, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The coil sensor is under the glass
  • Testing needs access to the coil assembly
  • Use of a coil with a bad sensor can overheat it
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

What is the coil sensor?

It is a temperature sensor mounted at the induction coil. It protects the coil from overheating. When it malfunctions, the cooktop shows six flashes and may stop that zone.

Is my cookware to blame?

Not for this code. Unsuitable cookware has its own pattern, nine flashes. Six flashes points to the coil sensor, while six flashes belongs to the coil temperature sensor under the glass, so the two never mix.

Does the repair take long?

Usually a single visit if the part is available. We quote in writing first and cover the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty, though the glass and coil assembly may need to come out first.
