What 1 means

On Viking Professional VICU206 and VICU266 induction cooktops, the hybrid VCCU106 and VCCU166, and the VISC530 induction range, code 1 means the element does not recognize a compatible cooking vessel. Pan detection takes priority over the residual-heat display, so the zone shows a flashing indicator at one flash per second. The code can also appear if Boost is selected on a zone with no suitable pan on it. The cooktop itself is usually fine.

Common causes of 1

  • Cookware that is not magnetic or is too small for the zone
  • Pan not centered on the marked zone, or lifted off the glass
  • Boost selected while the zone is empty
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the pan is magnetic by holding a refrigerator magnet to its base; it should stick firmly. 2. Center the pan on the zone and make sure the base is flat and dry. 3. Switch the zone off and on again. 4. If a known good magnetic pan still triggers the code, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A correct pan fixes most cases, so a visit is only worth it when good cookware still fails
  • We confirm which zone is not sensing before touching anything
  • You get the price in writing before any work starts
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

11 questions
Does code 1 mean my cooktop is broken?

Usually not. It tells you the zone cannot find a pan it can heat. Try a flat, magnetic pan centered on the circle first. Only if that fails does the zone itself need a look.

Why does it show up when I press Boost?

Boost still needs a compatible pan on the zone. If the zone is empty or the pan is not magnetic, the cooktop shows code 1 instead of starting to heat.

Which pans work on my Viking induction cooktop?

Pans that a magnet sticks to, with a flat bottom that sits fully on the glass. Aluminum, copper and glass without a magnetic layer will not be sensed, so the zone stays cold.
