On Viking Professional VDSC5xxT dual-fuel ranges with EOC4 control and VDSC display boards, such as the VDSC530T-4B or VDSC548T-4GQ, Comm means the control and display are not talking. There is either a loose communication link between the EOC4 and the VDSC display, or the RS485 serial link was lost or never established between the EOC4 and a user interface. Keys and heating may not respond.
1. Turn the oven off. 2. Switch the range breaker off for one full minute, then restore power. 3. Wait for the display to start up. 4. Do not press keys repeatedly while it boots. 5. If Comm returns, leave the range off and call us, because the boards sit behind the control panel.
Not necessarily. A loose link is the first thing we check, and reseating a connector can solve it. Only if the link is good do we look at the boards themselves.
The display depends on the serial link to the EOC4. If the link drops, the display cannot show the oven status or take key presses.
We give a written price before work begins. If the repair is a connector, it is usually the lower of the two kinds of fix, and it carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
