What Latch means

On Viking indicator-light range ovens without a numeric display, such as the Professional VDSC530 and VESC530 and the D3 RDSCD230-5B, Latch is a door latch error. You read it from the lights: the cycle light is off and the clean light flashes one second on and one second off. The control could not confirm the latch position, so the oven stops the cycle.

Common causes of Latch

  • Door latch not in the position the control expects
  • Latch switch not registering
  • Door lock motor or wiring
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Let the oven cool before touching the door. 2. Close the door squarely and check that nothing is caught in the frame. 3. Press the oven off key and switch the oven's breaker off for a minute, then back on. 4. If the clean light keeps flashing, stop and call us. If you smell gas on a dual-fuel range, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.

! Why to stop there
  • The latch assembly is behind the top trim
  • Forcing the door can bend the lock
  • Written price first, and a 30-day warranty on our repair
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

LatchLatch questions
How do I read the Latch pattern?

The cycle light stays off and the clean light flashes evenly, one second on and one second off. That pattern is the door latch error on these ovens.

Why is the pattern different from the RTD one?

The RTD error flashes the cycle light and leaves the clean light off, which is the reverse of Latch. The two lights tell you which error it is.

Can I open the door with the Latch pattern showing?

If the oven is cool, a gentle try is fine. If it will not release, do not pry; call us so the latch is not damaged further.
