What Diagnostic LED: 4 blinks means

On Viking undercounter beverage centers with an ice maker, such as the VURI1401D and DFRI1401D, four blinks on the LED behind the grille mean the control potentiometer is out of range. The potentiometer is the temperature dial's input to the control. When it reads out of range, the control cannot tell the setting you chose. You may notice the unit cooling to a temperature that does not match the dial.

Common causes of Diagnostic LED: 4 blinks

  • Temperature control potentiometer out of range
  • Dial loose or worn
  • Wiring to the control loose
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the temperature dial through its range and back to the middle. 2. Unplug the unit for a minute and plug it in. 3. Make sure the dial is not stuck. 4. Keep the door closed. 5. If four blinks persist, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The potentiometer is part of the control assembly
  • Wiring checks need a meter
  • The wrong part guess costs more
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Diagnostic LED: 4 blinksDiagnostic LED: 4 blinks questions
What is a potentiometer?

It is the part that turns the dial position into a signal for the control. If it reads out of range, the control cannot read your setting.

Could a stiff dial cause it?

Possibly. Turning the dial through its range sometimes clears a poor contact. If not, it needs a technician. It is not a part we expect you to open or adjust, so the dial is the only thing you touch.

Do you replace it?

Yes, if the test shows it is bad. We quote the price first and cover the repair for 30 days. We explain the finding before we start work.
