Code 9 on Viking Professional VICU206 and VICU266 induction cooktops, the hybrid VCCU106 and VCCU166, and the VISC530 induction range says a temperature sensor is defective. This can be a mechanical or electrical failure, a cracked sensor, or a sensor whose resistance has faded. The recommended repair is to change the coil, then the power board if the code remains. One zone usually stops heating, with the 9 showing.
1. Let the cooktop cool completely and wipe the glass clean. 2. Look for cracks in the glass over the zone that shows 9 without pressing on it. 3. Switch the breaker off for a minute, restore it, and test the zone with a magnetic pan. 4. If 9 returns or the glass is cracked, stop using that zone and call us.
It monitors the induction coil of the zone, and the repair path is to change the coil first. The power board is the next step if the 9 does not clear.
Often yes, if they behave normally. But a defective sensor means that zone cannot watch its own heat, so we would keep it off until it is repaired.
A crack can allow moisture or damage the sensor area, so tell us about it when you call. Cracked glass on an induction cooktop should not be cooked on at all.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
