Viking outdoor grills are built-in or cart-style gas grills with heavy burners, searing zones and sometimes a rotisserie. Common problems include burners that will not ignite, uneven heat, flare-ups, and rust from the weather.
In the order we see them across Houston homes.
Viking grills include built-in heads for outdoor kitchens and freestanding carts, in natural gas and propane. Heavy stainless bodies, infrared sear burners and ceramic or stainless grates are common, as is a rotisserie motor on larger models.
Houston weather is hard on outdoor cooking equipment. Heat, rain and humidity rust fasteners and trim, grease runs into burner tubes, and insects nest in them during idle weeks. On the coast, salt speeds all of this.
We clean and relight every burner first, then check the igniter, regulator, hose and gas fittings for leaks with soapy water. Where rust has weakened a part, we show it to you and explain the options. Safe gas connections come first, before we talk about looks.

Spiders and debris in the burner tubes, a weak battery in the igniter or a closed tank valve are the common reasons. Check the valve and battery, then call us if the burners still stay dark.
It can be. Turn off the burners and the tank valve, move away and, if you smell gas, call your gas company. Do not light anything. We can replace the hose or regulator once it is safe.
Cover it when cool, keep the burner tubes clean and wipe the stainless with a mild cleaner. Near the coast, rinse the surfaces more often to remove salt.
