On Viking Designer DETU series touch-control radiant cooktops, FE means a temperature sensor failure. The control cannot read a sensor correctly, so it stops all heating elements and shows the code on the timer display. Ft on the same cooktop carries the same meaning. Letter case matters here, so check whether the second letter is a capital E. Nothing will heat while the code is showing.
1. Turn all zones off and let the cooktop cool. 2. Wipe the glass clean and dry. 3. Switch the breaker off for one minute, then on. 4. Try a low heat setting. 5. If FE returns, leave the cooktop off and call us.
Without a reliable temperature reading the control cannot protect the glass and the elements, so it shuts them off. Without a trusted reading, it will not risk overheating the glass or the elements.
Both mean temperature sensor failure on this cooktop. They differ only in letter and case, so tell us exactly what you see. Tell us exactly which letters you see, as the repair path can differ.
We do not recommend it. The sensor sits under the glass. We quote the price in writing first and stand behind the work for 30 days.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
