Code 5 on Viking Professional VICU206 and VICU266 induction cooktops, the hybrid VCCU106 and VCCU166, and the VISC530 induction range signals a communication error between the interface board and the induction generator. The two parts stopped talking, so the cooktop cannot pass your knob settings to the heating side. Expect the 5 on the display and zones that will not heat.
1. Turn the cooktop off at its breaker, wait one minute, and restore power. 2. Try a zone with a magnetic pan. 3. If code 5 reappears right away, stop there. A cable or board link is the likely cause and it sits under the glass top, so please do not lift the cooktop or reach underneath. Call us with your model number.
Yes. The communication link between the boards runs through a cable that can work loose or fail inside the cooktop, and we check that cable first, before any board is replaced.
A reset restarts both boards, which can re-establish the link for a while. If the connection is marginal, the 5 returns and the cause still needs to be found.
Since the communication problem sits between the control and the heating side, we advise leaving the cooktop off until it is checked rather than testing zone after zone.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
