Viking VRT53646B Gas Rangetop Service
The VRT53646B is the second current 36-inch gas rangetop in the 5 Series, with a TruPower Plus 18,500 BTU burner, porcelainized surface and VariSimmer setting. The difference from the 53644G is in the model suffix, so we check the number before ordering parts.
Most of what brings us out is spill-related. A pot boils over, liquid runs under a cap and the spark dies. Burner caps also get knocked out of alignment during cleaning, and that alone can cause a lazy flame or a lift-off.
We reseat the caps, dry the electrodes and test every burner at both ends of the dial. If gas can be smelled, go outside and call the gas utility. We quote in writing first and cover repairs for 30 days.
They share the same size and features, but the suffix distinguishes finishes or details. We match parts by the complete number. The data plate holds the full number, and we read it before ordering.
Most often during cleaning, when a cap is set down slightly off its seat. A cap that rocks is not seated and should be repositioned.
High tests the ignition and flow, while low tests the simmer port and valve. Problems can appear at only one end. A burner that lights on high but dies on low points to the simmer port or valve.
