Viking VIPR162 36-Inch Downdraft Repair
The VIPR162 is a retired 36-inch rear downdraft whose controls are on the intake top, built into the unit itself instead of mounted remotely. That keeps the wiring short, but it also means the controls sit right where steam and grease rise.
We start by testing the controls on top of the intake, since moisture or grease can make them unresponsive. Next we remove the filters and clean the slot, then look at the blower below the counter for buildup or wobble. We run each speed, listen to the motor and follow the duct for restrictions. The cooktop is kept covered and cool throughout, and the slot is wiped clean before we close the unit up.
The price is written before we begin, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
They are part of the unit and sit close to the steam. We clean and test them, and check the short wiring between them and the blower.
We advise against spraying it. Use a barely damp cloth, since liquid can run into the controls. Moisture inside the controls is the most common reason they stop responding.
Grease on the wheel or a loose mount is the usual reason. We clean and tighten, then test every speed to confirm. A vibrating downdraft can wear its bearings, so it is best not to ignore it.
