Viking VGRT5366B Gas Rangetop

Most common issues on this model

  1. Burners that spark repeatedly yet never light
  2. Ragged flame traced to residue in a cap or port
  3. Re-ignition that misreads the flame once a spill has soaked in

Made for a countertop cutout above a separate wall oven, the VGRT5366B is a 36-inch gas rangetop with six sealed VSH Pro burners, one of them the 18,500 BTU PowerPlus. Its automatic re-ignition relights a flame that goes out in the middle of cooking.

Most of the calls we get are about wear, not electronics: igniters that no longer catch and caps with debris in the ports. A spill can also reach the sensor that drives re-ignition and make a burner restart itself without cause.

We clean and test each burner, then check the re-ignition. If a knob was left on and you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside. We write the price before work and warrant the repair for 30 days.

VGRT5366BVGRT5366B questions
Will a burner relight by itself if a draft blows it out?

Yes. The re-ignition circuit watches for the flame and sparks again within moments. If a burner stays dark after a draft, the igniter has worn or spilled liquid has fouled the sensing path, and we test both.

How do I tell a dirty port from a bad igniter?

A ragged or yellow flame that does light points to a dirty port. A burner that only clicks and never lights points to the igniter or electrode. We clean the port first because it costs less and often solves both.

Why does the PowerPlus burner need extra care?

At 18,500 BTU it moves the most gas of the six, so any film of grease in its ports cuts heat visibly. Lifting the cap and brushing the ports gently every few weeks keeps that burner at full output.
