Viking VGRT480 48-Inch Gas Rangetop
Wide enough for a serious cook, the VGRT480 is a retired 48-inch open burner gas rangetop with stainless steel open burners, VariSimmer control and surface options that can include char-grill, griddle and wok sections. The layout varies from kitchen to kitchen.
The more sections, the more grease paths. Drippings from a griddle or char-grill reach the nearby burners and clog their ports, and the wok section sends high heat to a very small area, which tests the igniter and valve. A plain open burner on the same top may be fine.
We test each section and the burners around it. A gas odor means leaving the house and phoning the gas utility. We quote before we repair, with a 30-day warranty after.
Grease from the griddle drips and spreads. It coats the burner and blocks ports, so the flame turns uneven. We clean the burner and advise on keeping drips away.
It concentrates intense heat on a small area, so the burner and valve work harder. We check the flame pattern and the valve for wear.
They are easier to take apart but exposed to spills. Regular cleaning keeps them reliable, and we recommend an annual check. Sealed tops hide the problem, while open burners show it, so you can see the flame change before the burner fails.
