Viking VGRT242 Sealed Burner Rangetop
The VGRT242 is a retired 24-inch gas rangetop with sealed burners and a one-piece porcelainized top whose raised edges hold spills in place. It is among the narrowest rangetops Viking made, so it tends to appear in galley kitchens, apartments or as a second cooking surface in a pantry or a bar.
A narrow top has little margin: pots hang over the edge and spills collect near the caps. The raised rim helps, but liquid still travels under a cap to the electrode, and clicking without lighting follows. The tiny size also means one failed burner is a large share of the cooktop.
We lift the caps, dry the electrodes and read each flame. If gas is ever in the air, step outside and ring the gas utility before anything else. Prices are written first, and repairs are covered by a 30-day warranty.
Liquid on the electrode keeps the module from detecting the flame. Drying it and cleaning the residue off normally stops the clicking. On a narrow top such as this, a single boil-over reaches several caps at once.
The burner parts are similar, but the layout and mounting differ. We match everything by model number, so we order exactly what fits. Mounting brackets and the grate layout are the usual differences.
Often in narrow kitchens, second kitchens or bars. Access under the cutout can be tight, so we plan how to reach the gas connection. Because the cutout is compact, a flashlight and a mirror are part of the job.
