Viking VGIQ5323RE2 Side Burner Repair
The VGIQ5323RE2 is a retired 53-inch E-Series grill that adds a side burner and a TruSear infrared burner to its heavy-duty rotisserie. It is a close relative of the RE1, and the plate on the frame tells us which parts to use.
An igniter box is the heart of the ignition system, and on outdoor grills it is often the part that moisture has reached. When burners refuse to spark, we check the box, the wiring and the battery or power source before replacing burners. A cracked infrared surface is a different matter: it must be replaced, not patched.
Main burners that light unevenly get a port-by-port cleaning. We soap-test fittings at the end of every visit. If a gas odor appears, close the supply and call the utility from outside. We confirm retired parts, give the price in writing, and warrant our work for 30 days.
Spilled food, a damp electrode or a failed igniter. We clean the ports, dry the electrode and test spark before looking at the valve. The spark module itself is tested only after the simpler causes are ruled out.
It is the module that makes the spark for each burner. Water and heat can ruin it, and we test it before replacing wiring or burners.
We advise against it. Cracks change how gas flows across the surface, and pieces can come loose. Replacement is the repair. A cracked ceramic is also a safety concern for the gas flow around it.
