Viking VGC530 30-Inch Gas Cooktop
The VGC530 is a 30-inch drop-in gas cooktop that sits in a standard cabinet cutout, commonly beside a wall oven or above a base cabinet. With sealed burners and continuous grates, spills stay on top instead of dropping into the cabinet, but they also collect around the burner ports.
With age, the typical issues are a click-click-click that never ends in a flame, a yellow or lopsided flame, and knobs that feel loose. We begin by pulling the caps and cleaning the ports, then check the igniter and the spark module for each burner. VariSimmer low settings depend on a clean, correctly seated burner, so we test those last.
If you smell gas at any time, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
Moisture or grease on the igniter, a cap that is not seated, or a weak igniter can all stop ignition. We clean and reseat first, then test the igniter and module, and explain the price before replacing parts.
Spilled food can partly block the ports, or the cap may sit crooked. Let the cooktop cool, lift the cap, and check the seat. If the flame stays uneven, we clean the ports and check the gas supply.
A loose knob can be a worn detent or a valve stem problem. Do not force it. We check whether the valve turns smoothly and replace the worn part so the burner shuts off fully.
