Part of the Professional Series, the VERT530 is a retired 30-inch custom electric rangetop with heavy-duty stainless steel knobs and QuickCook elements that reach full power in nearly three seconds. The knobs are the first thing a cook notices, and also the first thing that can work loose.
The knob stems wear against the switch shaft, and a loose knob can make the setting hard to read. Behind them, the switches take years of full-power cycles. If heat is uneven, the terminals deserve a look too, because electrical connections loosen as they heat and cool.

Usually yes. The knob may have loosened on a worn stem or the switch shaft may be rounded. We check the shaft and either tighten the knob or replace the switch.
A weak switch or a poor connection cuts the current. We measure the voltage at the element when it is on, and that tells us which part is responsible.
Pull them off when cool, wash with warm soapy water and dry before reinstalling. Never soak the switch shaft area, because liquid inside leads to erratic heat.
