Viking VDD5480 Downdraft Repair
The VDD5480 is a current 48-inch 5 Series downdraft with variable fan speeds, a heat sensor, LED lighting and an 18-inch-high chimney rise. It is the widest of the three VDD sizes and goes behind a 48-inch cooktop or range, typically in an island or peninsula.
A long chimney that rises and lowers has a lot of moving parts for its size. We check that it travels evenly along its length, with no side catching, and then remove the filters for a deep clean. The blower under the counter is inspected, the fan speeds are tested, and the heat sensor and LED lighting are checked. The duct is traced for restrictions.
We quote the price in writing before work, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A track may be dirty or a drive part may be wearing. We clean the track first and test the mechanism for smooth movement. Uneven travel can also stress the mechanism, so it is worth addressing early.
That is its purpose. If you see no change when the cooktop is hot, we test the sensor and wiring before looking at the blower. Sensors do not need adjusting by the owner, so a fix involves testing and replacing parts.
Yes, but tall pots can block the intake. Place them so air can still reach the slot, and run the fan before heating. Tall pots are fine for cooking, but they are best placed on the front burners.
