Viking VCIH5408 Island Hood Service
A retired 54-inch chimney island hood, the VCIH5408 is the wider of the two VCIH sizes. It is usually centered over a long island with a range or cooktop and sometimes a prep area beside it, so steam has a lot of space to escape.
When service is needed, the filters are first: we remove them, check for dents and clean the frames. We then inspect the blower for buildup and test the motor on every speed. Lights and controls are checked next, and we examine the duct above the chimney for a damper that has stopped moving. A hood this wide also has more weight to hold, so we look at the ceiling support.
