Viking RDWHC3042 D3 Wall Hood
The RDWHC3042 is a 30-inch chimney wall hood with ventilator from the Viking D3 series. Mounted above a 30-inch range, its chimney carries the duct to the ceiling, and its canopy captures steam and grease from the burners.
We begin with the filters, which we remove and inspect for grease and bends. The blower wheel and motor come next, followed by the damper and the duct connection. Lights and the fan switch are tested on every setting. If the problem is intermittent, we run the hood for longer to see when it appears. We finish by running the fan at each setting to confirm the canopy captures evenly.

It identifies the series. The hood is serviced like other chimney wall hoods: filters, blower, damper, lights and switch. Typical causes are an overheating motor, a loose wire or a worn switch, and each is tested in turn.
Overheating motors, loose wiring and failing switches can all do this. We test them in turn while the hood runs. The wiring in the chimney is checked for heat damage, because that is where connections tend to loosen over the years.
Yes, the lights are separate from the blower. We can replace the failed lamp or socket on its own. The lights are on their own circuit, so a failed lamp does not affect the fan, and it can be replaced separately.
