Viking RDECU266 36-Inch Electric Cooktop
With five burners on 36 inches of glass ceramic, the RDECU266 from the Viking D3 series offers a mix of element sizes. It is a retired model, built into the counter above a base cabinet.
These cooktops tend to need attention in the same sequence: first a burner slowing down, then a switch that gets inconsistent, and occasionally the glass. We start by confirming power, then measure each suspect element, and last we test the switches. The D3 mix of sizes means we match the replacement to the burner position before ordering.
You get the price in writing before work begins.
If one burner has been weak for months, the others may be close behind, so we measure all five while the cooktop is open and report the readings to you.
A weakening element can develop dark spots. We measure resistance and look at the coil pattern. A visibly damaged element is replaced as a single part.
No special type is needed, but flat-bottom pans give the best contact with the glass. Warped pans heat unevenly and can strain elements, so replace them if they rock on a flat surface.
We read voltage into the switch and out of it with the control turned on. If power comes in but nothing leaves, the switch is the likely cause, and we replace only that part.
